The Monitor spoke at the National Security College’s ‘Securing our Future’ conference

The topic of discussion for the Panel was ‘Securing our Federation: the rule of law’. The Monitor spoke about the relationship between secrecy and security in a democracy and considered the role of oversight and review bodies, including the INSLM, in the ‘social licence’ necessary for intelligence and security agencies to have special powers and exemptions from other laws.
