Summary of Private Hearing – AFP – 23 July 2024
On Tuesday, 23 July 2024, the Independent National Security Legislation Monitor, Mr Jake Blight held a private hearing with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) at 3-5 National Circuit, Barton ACT 2600.
The purpose of this hearing was to obtain initial information from the AFP about their use of warrants established under the Surveillance Legislative Amendment (Identify and Disrupt) Act 2021 including data disruption, network activity and account takeover warrants (collectively referred to as SLAID warrants) prior to INSLM staff reviewing a sample of SLAID warrants sought and issued to the AFP.
Note that this is not a 'transcript' of the hearing, rather it is a summary that both INSLM and the AFP have agreed outlines key points discussed but does not contain operationally sensitive information.
